Prices are going up

The tariff situation is changing rapidly, the U.S. might impose new tariffs (extra taxes) on goods coming from China and other countries. This may have an effect on tech products. The goal of these tariffs is to help the U.S. economy by addressing the trade gap with other countries. However, it's unclear exactly how much prices will rise or when tariffs on tech items will take effect. Some people believe it’s just a strategy to negotiate better trade deals. The situation is still evolving. We’ll have to wait and see how it all plays out.

End of Windows 10

Windows 10 is officially out of support in October 2025. Despite requests from consumers and tech experts, Many people will need to upgrade to a new computer. This could lead to a shortage of devices, making prices rise as demand increases. Retailers and tech companies are seeing a boost in sales as people rush to buy new systems. Some people hope that Microsoft will change its mind and offer additional solutions for older devices, but that’s not certain. Time will tell!

Users who have not updated to new computers for Windows 11 are rushing to get new devices. This may cause shortages on some items. Be prepared for sticker shock!

February 2025 update

These components increased in price BEFORE any tariffs or the end of Windows 10.

  • Selected AMD CPU chips
  • Selected motherboards (up 25%)
  • SSD & NVME Drives (up 20-30%)
  • SFX power supplies (Nearly double and harder to source)

October 2025 update

Tariffs have not been a significant factor (yet). A lot of tech items were exempted and many companies are shifting production away from China.

CD-Rom/DVD/Blu-Ray drive production has halted. Remaining new stock has doubled in price. If you still want a Blu-Ray player, buy it now. Many of us have massive collections of discs. The price of a regular DVD-RW has remained steady.

The price of memory chips has gone up for multiple reasons.

  • AI is creating a HUGE demand for memory.
  • DDR4 memory has been discontinued and becoming a bit harder to find. This increase is a normal part of the product lifecycle.
  • There is a massive demand for DDR5 as it's memory being used in all the new computers when consumers are upgrade to Windows 11.
  • DDR5 memory is up significantly since mid September.
  • AI is creating a huge demand for NVME storage.
  • NVME prices are up about $30 since the beginning of the year.
  • Gaming GPU's are shipping with as much as 24 Gig of memory.

November 2025 update - DDR5 Memory has gone insane!

The graph below is one of many examples of basic Corsair DDR5 2x16 6000mt memory. This is NOT the ultra-high speed gaming memory with RGB lighting. As you can see in the graph, prices spiked in September and are expected to stay elevated for the next couple of years. Some industry experts are even predicting short supplies up to 10 years. The average increase has been between 100 and 200 percent depending on what type memory and what brand your buying. Prices will come down after the AI bubble bursts or when manufacturing capacity increases to meet demand. It's only going to get worse.

As of November 17 - I am watching prices go up before my eyes! Memory kits that were under $115 a couple months back were $215 last night. This afternoon the same item was $290! -- If you can find anything in stock. - People are buying computer memory like toilet paper during Covid!
